Mission Trip F.A.Q.

What is the Daily schedule?
Each mission trip is in the format of a retreat. The group comes together for morning, mid-afternoon, and night prayer, for daily Mass (when possible) and for retreat gatherings in the evenings. While in Mexico, the days are spent working at the orphanage.
How is transportation to and from the orphanage handled?

We pick up all missionaries at the Cancun Airport. We stay overnight at the City of Joy retreat center approximately 45 minutes from the Cancun Airport. We drive each day from the retreat center to the orphanage, approximately 30 miles.

What does the money cover?

The cost of the mission trip is $750.00 and includes all lodging, meals in Mexico, ground transportation to Mexico and back, retreat supplies, expenses for construction/paint/work projects, crafts for the children and a gift of food and/or money for the orphanage as a donation from our mission group.

How do I fundraise?

We will provide you with a fundraising letter you can personalize and send to family/friends, along with a return “donor form” your supporters can use to return to us. Most people prefer to donate online through our website and can select your name to be credited when they do so. All donations online receive a receipt immediately. Those who donate through the mail receive a written receipt if they donate more than $250.00. Serving God’s Kids and Singles Serving Orphans are projects under Youth Support, Inc., a non-profit organization founded in 1995. All donations are tax deductible. For more fundraising ideas see the fundraising resources page of our website.

When / where will I arrive and depart?

We fly into the Cancun International Airport (CUN). It is preferable (but not necessary) to arrive mid-morning/early afternoon, and depart late morning/early afternoon. We will pick you up by Van at the airport and bring you to the retreat center where we lodge each night.

What should I bring?

Modest clothing is required – nothing revealing, stretchy, tight etc. Please travel light as we have lots of supplies to fit in our van. One, carry-on size bag is all we will have room for.

What gifts may I give to the children?

All gifts must be approved in advance, and given directly to the orphanage director to give to the children. No gifts may be given directly to the children.

What about adoption?

International adoptions are complicated, particularly in Mexico. Our job is simply to love and serve the children and the staff of the orphanage right where they are.

Do I need a passport?

Yes. You MUST have a current passport.
